AJ + Joy's Wedding Highlights
Pure Michigan!
Driving to the Sauk Vally Resort took about 2hr 20min. It felt great to be back in Michigan. I hadn't filmed a wedding there since 2012.
I arrived to the SVR around 10:15AM. I was scheduled to arrive at the venue at 1:30 though being acquainted with venues prior to ceremonies are really important to me! The venue was beautiful with vast viewings of the surrounding trees. The fact that ceremony and reception settings were already setup were a PLUS! This allowed me to grab establishing shots of the settings at the venue.
The details I noticed for the ceremony turned out to be hand crafted by the bride herself. I would imagine that would have taken a while to do!
The window in the Ceremony area did bring anxiety for fear of trying to correctly expose the video. If exposed wrong, the sky and trees would be overexposed which would not give any detail. Though my camera has great dynamic range which allowed me to successfully expose for the couple as well as the beautiful view outside!
After gathering shots of the venue, it was time to go and grab shots of the Bride to Be!
After spending timer with the Bride and her bridesmaids, it was then time to head back to the venue and collect shots of the dress and accessories. I made it my goal to get the dress in a unorthodox positioning. The stairwell was flooded with people going up and down the stairs, and everyone passing seemed to say "That's creative!"
About 45 mins prior the ceremony beginning, I decided to get my cameras setup for coverage. 2 on the floor of the Ceremony and one on the balcony of the venue.
It was time for the ceremony to begin. One thing that stood out during the ceremony is that both Aj and Joy diverted from their written vows. They allowed the words they spoke to come from their heart. So encouraging to see that in person.
Once the ceremony was all wrapped up, It was then time to capture shots of the Bride and Groom. The cinematic approach is what I typically aim for. Though it was hard to do this day. Simply because it was pouring down rain outside during the entire Ceremony and Reception. BUT we had an awesome couple who were willing to go out in the rain with an unmbrella and get shots for their wedding film.
Reception Time! It was time to party and eat. Though first we had speeches from the Maid of Honor and Best Man.
After eating and speeches, it was time to dance. The dance floor was lit by a flood light I like to use. While the floor was accented with the couples' names from the DJ's lighting.
After highlighting events, the night was capped off. The SVR's venue was amazing. Beautiful scenery and great hospitality from their staff. I enjoyed the couple's energy and willingness to allow me to capture those awesome candid moments. Joy was an absolutely stunning Bride and AJ knew that he had really found someone he could spend the rest of his life with. This day was absolutely amazing and I was ecstatic to be apart of it.
